These 'alien' buildings for Bryce were constructed by a number of members of the original Bryce List,
currently at YahooGroups. In February 2004, we held a monthly challenge with a difference - instead of
everyone working individually on scenes and renders that complied with the monthly theme, members were
invited to collaborate on a shared project, sharing their creations with other members, so that all
could use the same 'building blocks' to create images.
The theme was "Alien City", and the inspiration came from an image created in Maya and posted to the CG
Channel forum.
That original Maya image is still (as of this time of writing, anyway!) viewable
here
As a result of this project being a collaborative one, each contributor applied his/her own style to the
resources. Consequently, you may find that upon loading, the scale is not consistent with buildings
created by another contributor. Simply scale the entire building until you achieve the results you want.
My own buildings included in this package are mostly the result of playing with Bryce primitives and
boolean operations to create interesting shapes. Many of the buildings can be broken down into subgroups,
and recombined to create new variants and structures. The texture map I have used is also an original
creation, and can be scaled and tweaked to create different looks such as concrete and metal, for example.
Others opted to create shapes in external modelling programs, and import and combine them in Bryce, using
procedural textures.
Installation
The buildings are included as a Bryce 5 preset library in the .obp format. Unzip the file, and place it
in your ".../Bryce 5/Presets/Objects/User" folder, or any other folder hanging off the
".../Bryce 5/Presets/Objects/..." structure. Please remember that any objects folder in Bryce 5 is limited
to no more than 14 .obp files, but you can create as many such user folders as you want. For example,
in the image below, I have created a folder called Architecture - so my path is ".../Bryce 5/Presets/Objects/Architecture/AlienBldgs.obp". Then, when you are in
Bryce, the file will appear in your 'Create' preset library, as seen in the following image:

your images, and I'll pass them on to the group!
